1. Cage Mesh Surface Treatment Determines Service Life
High-Strength Q235 Steel Wire
Firstly, our cage wire material is Q235 steel. Its tensile strength can reach 800–900 MPa, making it very hard and resistant to bending.
After installation, the cage can even support two men standing on it.
Secondly, the cage surface treatment is hot-dipped galvanized with 275 GSM zinc coating + 10% aluminum, providing excellent anti-rust performance.
It uses the same corrosion-resistant material as gabion cages installed near rivers, making it highly durable even in humid climates.
Furthermore, HIGHTOP cage mesh has a smoother surface to better protect chickens’ legs and eggs. If the surface is rough, it may damage the chickens’ feet and reduce the egg production rate.

Why Zinc Coating Matters More Than “Galvanized”
Many manufacturers claim their cages are made of galvanized wire. However, even with galvanized wire of the same type, the service life can differ by more than ten years.
There are two methods of producing cage mesh:
Cold Galvanized
- Rusts after about one year
- Service life: approximately 5 years
Hot-Dipped Galvanized
Although many different names are used in China, the English term is still hot-dipped galvanized.
The best way to distinguish quality is by checking the zinc coating weight.
There are three common standards:
- 60–100 GSM zinc coating: lifespan about 10 years
- 275 GSM zinc coating: lifespan about 15 years
- 275 GSM + 10% aluminum: lifespan about 20 years
Once you understand the difference between hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing, as well as the zinc coating weight, you can easily distinguish high-quality cages from inferior ones.
Last but not least, for cage nets of the same size, ours are significantly heavier. Each cage net weighs 0.5–1 kg more on average than those from other manufacturers.
Even with the same wire diameter, cage nets can vary greatly in weight. We always use full-weight raw materials without cutting corners.
2. Stronger Cage Frames Provide Better Stability
Heavy-Duty U-Shaped Steel Frame
Firstly, HIGHTOP cage stands are made from 2 mm thick U-shaped steel, fully hot-dipped galvanized with 275 GSM zinc coating.
The hook sections are produced by stamping, then fixed with screws instead of welding, creating a stable structure without solder joints. As a result, they are much less likely to rust and have a longer service life.
Wider Cage Span Reduces Rust Risk
Secondly, our cage frame width is larger than most suppliers.
For 3-tier A-type cages, our frame span reaches 2.3 meters, while most Chinese suppliers only provide 2.1–2.2 meters.
For 4-tier cages, we use a 2.4-meter span, which is the maximum width that still guarantees normal operation.
The wider span ensures zero overlap between cage nets, preventing manure from accumulating on the wire mesh.
Since chicken manure remains damp for long periods, continuous accumulation significantly accelerates corrosion.
Double Folded Edge Technology
Thirdly, our cage frames adopt double folded edge technology, the same manufacturing process used on our automatic laying hen cages.
Compared with ordinary frames, double folded edges:
- Consume more raw materials
- Increase structural strength
- Improve rust resistance
To extend the service life of standard cages, we apply the same high-end frame technology used in our automatic cage systems.

3. Small Accessories Also Affect Cage Quality
Although the first two factors are the most important, the quality of small accessories should never be overlooked.
Water Pipe
Our water pipes have a wall thickness of 1.8 mm, compared with the 1.4–1.5 mm commonly found on the market.
The thicker wall prevents sunlight penetration and algae growth.
If the pipe wall is too thin, algae will develop after long-term sun exposure. Chickens drinking contaminated water are more likely to become sick, reducing egg production and farm profits.
Feed Trough
Our feed troughs are made from 100% virgin PVC without impurities, helping maintain flock health.
Feed troughs made from recycled materials can easily cause health problems.
In addition, our troughs are thick and durable enough to support an adult man standing on them.
By contrast, recycled PVC troughs are brittle and fragile, and approximately one-third may break during ocean transportation.

Nipple Drinker
Our nipple drinkers are manufactured using ABS material, which is non-toxic and safer for poultry.

Important Reminder Before Using Laying Cages
Please note that laying hen cages are only suitable for hens with an average body weight of over 700 grams.
Younger chicks can easily slip through the cage gaps and cannot properly reach the feed trough.
Therefore, pullets should be raised for approximately 12–14 weeks before being transferred into laying cages.
